Apologetics Class learns to defend the Catholic Church's Teaching in D.C.

Sister Amelia, O.P. and senior Apologetics student,
Kara Hand read over St. Thomas Aquinas' summa.

The Apologetics Class went on an educational and inspiring fieldtrip to the Dominican House of Studies in south west Washington, D.C. Students celebrated Mass in the Chapel. After Mass, Brother Albert and Brother Cassian gave the class talks on bioethics and marriage. The class prayed the Liturgy of the Hours with the Dominicans and a student brother gave the girls a tour of the unique chapel. The girls had a wonderful lunch with all the brothers. During lunch, some of the brothers talked to the girls about their life as a brother and how they were called to their vocation.
“I am very grateful that our young women can be exposed to the Dominican charism and see that faith is not opposed to reason,” said Apologetics teacher Sister Amelia, O.P.
The mission of the Dominican House of Studies is “to prepare a new generation of evangelists, both preachers and teachers, for ministry in a world hungry for meaning, truth and God.” They provide training for both ordained and non-ordained men through courses that involve understanding the theological approach of St. Thomas Aquinas. Each day, the brothers pray the Liturgy of the Hours and celebrate mass together. Each day consists of prayer, common life, evangelical counsels, study, and ministry. Following the example of St. Dominic, the brothers pledge to care for one another in the community. (From the Dominican House of Studies website, http://www.dhs.edu/)
“It was such a fun trip. I am so gracious that I was able to learn from the brothers,” said senior Apologetics student Kara Hand.
