Dance Classes Enjoy Nature

Mrs. Romeo's Dance I, Dance IIa, and Dance IIb classes recently completed a unit on Modern Dance. Students explored the elements of dance (body, energy, space, and time = BEST) in creating movement specific to the site they were given.  They also explored the post-modern elements of pedestrian movement and everyday gestures.

"We discussed the concept of "site specific work" as a part of post-modernism in dance," said Mrs. Romeo. "Each class was given a site to work in, including the gazebo, the porch and the benches behind the school. It is always inspiring to move in a new and different space!"

Students learned about Isadore Duncan, the founder of American Modern Dance. Early in the century, she enjoyed dancing outside with unrestricted movements.

"I liked the unit. The temperature was over 70 degrees, so it was fun to be outside," said sophomore Jessica Krause.
