“If I could sum up Mr. Wright in a few words, I’d have to simply say, he cares about people,” said senior Gabby Voso.
Other members of the Mount de Sales community, and beyond, would fervently agree that Mr. Wright exudes a caring, loving presence wherever he goes. February 1, 2012, marked the 40th anniversary of Mr. Wright’s teaching career.
His teaching career started at Perry Hall high school on February 1, 1972, and he worked there for 26 years. “I was scared to death on my first day of teaching and couldn’t even eat after 7th period. Lucky for me, what would have been my second day, was a snow day, so I got to relax and regroup,” said Mr. Wright.
Mr. Wright started at Mount de Sales Academy in August of 1998, under headmistress Sr. Helen Marie. Over the course of his 14 years at MDSA, Mr. Wright has taught Western Civilizations, Modern U.S. History, and Archaeology. He is also the sponsor of the S.A.D.D. club, and currently works in the school Archives Department.
“Mr. Wright always goes above and beyond his teaching duties. For several years, he directed traffic and raised the flag. He is constantly helping other teachers with tasks both big and small,” said Mrs. Schorr.
Mr. Wright is now on a part time schedule, so he can spend more time with his family. He is also currently the school archivist. While he is spending less time teaching this year, his students still have plenty of fond memories and stories to tell about Mr. Wright.
"I’ll never forget junior year, when our Modern U.S History class asked Mr. Wright if he was coming to prom. He told us he probably wouldn’t be able to make it, because he wasn’t very comfortable driving at night, and didn’t want to be out too late. But sure enough, he surprised us there, and it was so awesome,” said senior Megan Sedney.
Mr. Wright lives in White Marsh with his wife Bonnie, of 44 years. He has two grandchildren, Owen, age 5, and Kaylee, age 1.
