2012 Prom T-shirt Design by Ann Lipscombe |
After four years of patiently waiting, the class of 2012 is finally able to plan their much anticipated dream prom. In early January senior Cierra O’Keefe started the “Don’t Steal My Dress!” group on Facebook, and every day juniors and seniors are flooding the site with posts of their dresses. As April 20th draws closer girls are coming up with hundreds of ideas to make their night at the BWI Marriot the most memorable evening possible. Recently a group of seniors gathered in the Bird Room with Mrs. Lanciotti to discuss everything from balloon arches to napkin color for prom.
As one can imagine, the group of eager teenage girls were rattling off one idea after the other. With much enthusiasm and consideration the committee was able to narrow the theme options down to Old Hollywood, Under the Sea, Moroccan, and Tiffany’s. Co-chair of the committee, Courtney Geier, has dedicated her time to creating a power point of these themes to present to the seniors on Friday 10th.
“Getting together the details for each theme is fun, but it is a lot of work. Each theme is going to have a different ticket price, because of the decorations and favors. All of the themes are beautiful, though, and no matter what we decide it will be a fun time,” said prom committee chair Courtney Geier.
On Friday the 10th, 121 seniors crowded into the music hall to view the prom theme power point. The class came together and almost unanimously decided on the Tiffany theme. Friday the 18th, the prom committee is diving into planning, starting with designing tickets, choosing favors and presenting the prom t-shirt.
Emily Sonni, a senior and creative powerhouse, is planning on filming a video of the senior class to play during prom.
“A friend of mine did a great stop motion video and I was inspired. I think it would be so cool and different to have a stop motion video instead of a slide show. I’m so excited to start filming and I can’t wait to see everyone’s reaction when we show it at prom,” said senior Emily Sonni.
For this years prom don’t expect a typical Mount de Sales event. Of course we’ll have the usual PG rated dancing and a Mount de Sales appropriate playlist, but the class of 2012 is going to make it special. Our group of committed girls is coming up with new ideas every day for ways to make this prom one to remember.
