Helping out the Troops

Have you ever seen a face of relief? The Support Our Troops club has.  The Support Our Troops club teamed up with Operation Welcome Home and greeted soldiers as they walk through the terminal at BWI Airport.  The students give them goodie bags filled with snacks and water; they also cheered them on as they walk through the terminal.
“Seeing them walk through the door and seeing the face of relief of finally being home and out of the terror makes me feel better that I am helping make the lives of those soldiers better. Knowing that they feel loved and welcomed makes everyone feel better,” said junior Taylor Price, President of the Support Our Troops Club.
The Support Our Troops club visited BWI on October 27th and January 26th, and both visits were successful.
"I am proud of the students.  Their love and care shined through for the soldiers," said Mrs. Clements, sponsor of the Support Our Troops Club.
Support Our Troops Club hosted an assembly for the school on February 16.  The students listened to Adam Widner from the Wounded Warriors Project; who talked about his experience in the war and how he suffered a spinal cord, shoulder and ankle injuries while in Afghanistan.
“Everyone should keep an open mind when listening to the soldier speak because his story is inspiring and he is brave to be talking about this crazy moment that happened in his life,” said junior, Andrea Miller.
The club is also hosting a 5-K race at Patapsco State Park to help raise money to make Under Armour backpacks to send to the Wounded Warriors.
“Helping out the troops makes me feel better about myself because I know after seeing how my brother reacted when he received packages from people he was very thankful and I know that is how all of the soldiers feel,” said Price.
